Turning ambitious art direction into a real retail system.

While employed by Zappos, the developer behind Five Acre Code refined third-party Figma direction for real devices and commerce constraints, then implemented the CNCPTS storefront across discovery, storytelling, product purchase, editorial content, and customer email.

The assignment

Preserve the point of view. Make it work in commerce.

The supplied Figma direction established the visual ambition, but static frames did not account for every device, content length, catalog condition, or interaction a live store would encounter. In his role at Zappos, the developer adapted that direction into responsive rules and reusable components without flattening the brand's editorial character.

The result was not a page-by-page imitation of fixed mockups. It was a configurable theme system that could carry campaigns, product drops, evergreen catalog browsing, editorial stories, and the practical path to purchase.

Contribution boundary

The original design direction came from an independent agency. The responsive refinement and Shopify implementation were completed by the developer behind Five Acre Code as part of his employment with Zappos. CNCPTS was not a Five Acre Code client.

End-to-end scope

One implementation across the full customer journey.

The theme was built on Dawn for a sound Shopify foundation, then substantially customized across the surfaces that shape how customers discover, understand, and buy products.

01

Homepage and campaigns

Responsive banners, merchandising grids, product carousels, editorial options, and blog teaser components designed for repeatable campaign use.

02

Catalog discovery

Collection templates, navigation, filtering, sorting, product cards, and shopper-controlled grid density across viewport sizes.

03

Product and purchase UX

Product detail pages, product media and information, custom quick add, variant behavior, and custom size parsing for footwear-heavy inventory.

04

Editorial content

Blog landing and article templates that let product culture and brand stories live inside the same coherent design system.

05

Commerce operations

Storefront integrations and payment-provider enablement, with the implementation carried through the practical details needed to transact.

06

Customer email

Custom Klaviyo marketing email templates and Shopify transactional email templates aligned with the storefront experience.

Component deep dive

A carousel system built for merchandising range.

The carousel work went beyond a row of products. It gave the storefront a reusable language for dense shopping, editorial storytelling, and responsive interaction.

One component system Carousel + grid

Configurable behavior, shared visual rules, multiple merchandising contexts.

01

Selectable density

Customers can change product grid density to scan more items or see larger product imagery.

02

Editorial modes

Products and brand storytelling can coexist without forcing every carousel into one visual pattern.

03

Device-aware controls

Layout and interaction adapt for touch, narrow screens, and wider desktop browsing.

04

Merchant flexibility

Reusable configuration supports changing campaigns without rebuilding the frontend each time.

The implementation

Dawn as a foundation, not a ceiling.

Dawn supplied a dependable Shopify-native starting point. The developer customized the structure, styling, data handling, and interactions on top of it to meet CNCPTS' identity and merchandising needs.

That choice preserved useful platform conventions while allowing the visible experience to become distinctly CNCPTS—from high-impact campaign content through collection browsing and size-aware quick add.

The result

A cohesive sneakerhead storefront where editorial presence and buying utility reinforce each other.

The September 2026 homepage capture records the storefront at a point in time, and the live site remains useful context because substantial parts of this implementation are still in place. CNCPTS is an active retail site, however, so its content, apps, and code may continue to change after the engagement.
